Batterie-en-Valise: music for two percussionists and six suitcases.
Six gutted-out vintage suitcases - each housing a quirky collection of curated found objects - transform into a cacophonous jungle gym of mounted percussion assemblages and dangling curiosities.
The music superimposes a long history of traditional rhythms onto an unstable contemporary frame, telling the story of a world that is losing its connection with authentic meaning. www.kineticontology.com
Eric has toured extensively with Merge Records mainstays The Ladybug Transistor since 2008, and supplied the drums and percussion for their most recent release – 2011′s Clutching Stems.
Eric has collaborated with composer César Alvarez in The Lisps since 2007, when he began developing his quirky cacophony of found sounds. The co-ed four-piece has released three full-length albums, trekked across five national tours, and presented their original sci-fi Civil War musical FUTURITY at Mass MoCA; Walker Art Center; American Repertory Theater; ARS Nova; HERE Arts; Joe’s Pub; and The Zipper Factory. FUTURITY will have its off-Broadway debut as part of The SoHo Repertory Theater‘s 2014-2015 season.
TERRY DAME (host/curator) is a composer, multi-instrumentalist, instrument inventor and mad scientist. Mastermind behind the invented instrument ensemble Electric Junkyard Gamelan and it's solo offshoot ElectronGong, Dame has been delivering original musical innovation to NYC audiences since 1985. When not inventing weird instruments and playing them she plays saxophone with several NYC projects including Paprika- Brooklyn's own all-girl world beat acid-rock jam band, Dawn Drakes's Afro-zillian funk explosion - Zapote, Kenny Wollesen's Himalayas and Wollesonic Laboratory, Jessica Lurie's Plate Tiptonics and the electronic dance trio Daughter of Darrr. She also writes music for film and is a avid gardener.
"Terry Dame is one of those eccentric musicians for whom composing isn't enough, she has to create new instruments as well. A downtown fixture." (Time Out NY)
